D, Narayani P. Singh was born in village Ganga Pur, (Mangari) Varanasi. He finished his early education up to high school from nearby schools of his village. He finished I.Sc. from Queens College Varanasi and B.Sc. M.Sc (Chemistry) and Ph. D. (Chemistry) from Banaras Hindu University. After serving as a scientific officer in Bhabha Atomic Research Center from 1967 to 1971. He migrated to United States in 1971. He worked at theUniversity of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New York University, finally settled at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City as professor of Nuclear Chemistry.

When he used to come to his home town of Ganga Pur to visit his parents, extended family members, relatives and fellow villagers, he found that girls of his village are not going to school after 8th grade. He discussed this matter with his father, who retired as a headmaster of elementary school of Varanasi Corporation. His father told Dr. Singh that girls are not going to school because there is no girls’s college in this area. Dr. Singh requested his father to donate five acres of land and his father happily donated the land.

Dr. Singh managed to build one building containing eight lecture halls each 35 feet long and 25 feet wide having a 10 feet wide Verandah. The college got started as an Intermediate College in 1990 having 110 students enrolled from 6th to 9th grades and 11th grade. Dr Singh was very happy to find highly intelligent and capable female teachers. Seven teachers were hired and they worked hard to teach these girls which impressed the guardians quite a bit. As a result enrollments started growing much faster than we had anticipated.  After three or four years a group of seven or eight students approached Dr. Singh and asked what kind of future we will have with intermediate certificate. Dr. Singh said this made him very happy to find that now the girls are hungry for higher education. Dr. Singh started Degree College with only six subjects in Arts faculty in 1996.

We are pleased to inform that we have ten subjects in undergraduate Arts faculty ( Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Sociology, Home Science, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, Education, and Ancient History).
